Life is a climb, there are constant up and downs that are felt in the process of reaching the top. It’s not a surprise that realtors are no exception to this rule. Other than the classic instances of exceptional success and boom in the number of deals, there are times when you are met with huge slumps in your career path. These breaks tend to make most of the real estate veteran to slow down and cause them to become mentally lethargic. When things go falling down the rest soon follows, including your team.  In this dire situation it is necessary for someone to take charge and change the company’s low energy, that is only leading to more unproductive days and further failure. How does one take charge at such a challenging time, how does he force himself to maintain the high level of energy and a positive attitude when nothing is looking up?
Well here are a few ways one can find the inspiration to get out and get better.
    Just how John Shipps says:
“You either get bitter or you get better. It's that simple. You take what has been dealt to you and allow it to make you a better person, or you allow it to tear you down. The choice does not belong to fate, it belongs to you.”

Keep up the work! – don’t stop

In order to regain your previous high energy you need to force yourself to continue your daily work routine. Keep maintaining all your listings like you used to before. Keep meeting new and old clients, hold team meetings, renew plans look at progress reports.  . The continuation of your everyday tasks and actions will help you regain some strength and control over your situation. It will get you out of the rut you’re stuck in. You can cling to your old routine but also try and experiment with new things. How long has it been that you’ve tried to ask your team to share their queries and problems? Start fun competitive activities among your coworkers which will compel you to study different aspects of real estate. All these actions will get you out of your headspace and free you of your worries, as a starter.

    Increase creativity

This may be the most absurd thing you’ll hear in a while, but it turns out that whenever you are stuck in a dilemma or a difficult situation you are the most creative you can be. Hence take your time out once in a while and allow those creative juices to flow. You can also facilitate this by reading different books, listening to helpful podcasts and videos. Dare to look at your situation from different viewpoints Be spontaneous while you try to solve all the possible questions arising in your head, utilize different unconventional ways to problem solve. This will not only expand your thinking power but might lead you to tremendous new results.

    Remember your WHY

During productivity slumps it’s essential to rewire your brain and recall all the reasons why you decided to walk this road. What was it that drove you towards selling and buying real estate, was it the money or the process? You need to define your core values and attach your idea of success with that rather than the numbers. Make sure you’re on the right track and making the right choices according to your long term goal. Money can surely provide a short time high, but it won’t ever be enough to quench the thirst of your soul and your inner yearning. Hence it’s necessary to ask yourself these questions and figure out these answers before you go back to work.
Once you’re aware of your purpose and goals all the troubles will feel secondary, while the need to keep moving forward, will fall first.

    Practice Proactivity

Stop being a victim to all that happens around you and stop letting others decisions make you question your own abilities. Often times with constant rejections, state agents start giving up and blaming others. The right way to approach this situation is to direct your attention into skillfully managing your time and energy. Making daily goals and checklist that aren’t based on a yes or no from the customer, but rather just on your actions. You can’t control others but you can control your own self. Try to evaluate your own self and observe what your shortcomings are in the day, write how you can avoid them in the future. Being self-aware will help you grow daily and push you to perform better every single day.

This habit of blaming situations and other people results in the pitfall of leading real estate veterans. Hence be aware of the times when your brain is propels you towards reactivity and force it towards proactivity instead.

    Focus on the positivity

It’s easier to dwell into the never ending circle of doom, focusing so much on the darkness that you fail to see anything else. However, in order to find your ground back, you need to look at this situation from different perspectives. Embrace the growth mindset, seek opportunity in your failure to learn and grow. Think of all the times you’ve had successes and how many happy times await you in this demanding career.

    Have Fun!

Now that things aren’t working why waste all this time overthinking the decisions you’ve already made. Maybe the lack of motivation is just stemming from overexertion and is indicative of - a burn out. Why not use this opportunity to lay back for a little while and go reef diving for a change, meet up with friends unrelated to work and just live the moment for what it is. You will come back with double the energy and motivation that was lagging before. Hence it’s beneficial to take breaks and have fun sometimes.

    Conclusion

It’s no surprise when a real estate agent tumbles down the alley of gloom and demotivation due to the volatile nature of the job. The highs and lows faced in real estate are quite incomparable to that witnessed in other careers, hence it’s every realtor’s individual responsibility to keep themselves motivated and pumped. Look ahead! Better times are coming just don’t give up yet.
