2007 was the year of “hashtag” and in recent years, the use of this symbol "#" is increased especially with the rise of social media tools. It is used to highlight popular topics on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. But now we’ll see it physically in real life! It is also possible that may be able to live in one. Yes, a Danish architecture design firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) is planning to build a twin-tower skyscraper that will completely resemble the shape of “#.” It will provide urban residencies, a place to live a luxurious lifestyle in the city district of South Korea.

    Project Overview

This hashtag- inspired Skyscraper takes inspiration from the symbol in its four intersections; linking the two building towers together with two shorter horizontal bridges. Originally, BIG was planning to design two sky-high buildings but the height restrictions forced them to take off the extra length and to be more creative in project designing. Now they have added the bridges to give the design a unique look as well as for additional space. No doubt, space is added in the more modest attitude. This Cross # Towers will feature large square shape glass windows for mesmerizing views of the Yongsan International Business District in Seoul which overlooks Han River.

    Proposed Master Plan Details

Cross # Towers will be spanning over a land of 21,000 square meters, or approximately 226,042 square feet. The height of these towers will almost reach to 214 and 204 meters (702 and 669 feet). The designers have planned to build 600 luxurious apartments in it. However, the linking two bridges will also feature beautiful, outdoor gardens. These beautiful terraces will also boost up the beauty of this project.

This unique Hashtag Tower design not just gives the buildings an inspiring look but also a mesmerizing idea to use the connecting bridges as outdoor communal areas. The lower bridge of the towers will be slightly above the ground level. The roof of the bridges will shape as roof gardens, full with lush green grass and trees. This idea will provide the best recreational spaces such as playgrounds, and courtyards that are more often reserved to the grounds. Moreover, the towers will have a large library, kindergarten school and an art gallery that will make it a top place to live.

The eccentric shape of the Cross # Tower should also make a buzz for locals and visitors. And upon completion, it with be the latest sightseeing destinations in South Korea.

Currently, the BIG’s proposal for the Hashtag-inspired Skyscrapers is waiting for approval from international firms. Once it approved, the construction work will move ahead.
