REVEALED INADEQUACIES OF SINDH BUILDING CONTROL AUTHORITY
SBCA (Sindh Building Control Authority) is an institution that was established to deal with any construction-related questions from citizens in 1979. Everything from real estate investment to construction, as well as the necessary permissions for building a house in Sindh, must be obtained from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA).
SBCA was established to assure legalized construction. Their goals were to offer professional construction licenses, to certify legal construction, to deal with private building deals, and to legitimize the construction process in Sindh. By-laws were formed for SBCA in order to implement town planning and contrary how many people will be allowed to live in a certain building. But it is the counter that has been happening lately illegal construction are at their peak if critically analyzed, and when asked about these constructions the authorities present the argument that either they were ill-informed of this happening or it doesn’t come under their jurisdiction.
Be it the approval of the construction of a resident or a commercial, approval of floor plan everything related to construction was assigned to this institution. SBCA’s initial objectives were to ensure quality control and quality existence.
According to reports, Lately, SBCA is not achieving any of the objectives it was made for. Simultaneously, a case involving the SBCA working has surfaced. In which a private channel staged a sting operation on SBCA employees, revealing that they were blackmailing and bribing individuals with regards to their approvals and queries.
And this isn't the first time the institution has been revealed; it has happened before, but no serious measures have been taken against the personnel who have been defaming the entire organization. Previously the authority was accused of violating entity-specific design regulations and processes by issuing NOCs to builders and developers for the construction of high-rise structures.
It's really sad that, despite knowing exactly where the flaws are, the legal system continues to not hold the institution accountable for its deeds. Instead, anti-encroached drives and construction of multiple-story buildings having up to 8 floors are stopped when it is clearly too late. There would be less confusion associated with ill-legal buildings if these structures were stopped and labeled as such.
Action is required against this type of illegal work, especially when it comes from a respectable institution of our country one that is required by the masses, and the measures are desperately needed; it is past time to bring them in. And why they're needed: to prevent unlawful development, anti-encroachment, and multi-story buildings
